Frequently asked questions
I aim to provide clear and helpful answers to your most common questions about counselling and what to expect.
Taking the first step can bring many thoughts and concerns, so if you have any questions then please do not hesitate to contact me, I am very happy to answer any questions you may have.
How much does it cost?
First Assessment session £50. Thereafter, individual sessions cost £60 per 60 minute session. Saturday mornings are charged at £65 per hour. All fees are payable before each session by bank transfer please. You can also pay by cash which is to be paid at the beginning of the session, thank you.
When are appointments available?
Daytime and evening appointments available.
Saturday mornings are also available on request.
How long is a session/How frequent?
A session lasts 60 minutes and usually once a week. However, the frequency of our sessions is entirely up to you.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies depending on your needs, availability and financial situation but on average I have found that at least 4 sessions are beneficial. If issues are more deep rooted then the number of sessions needed can increase to 8 or above. It is difficult to judge as of course this is such an individual thing.
What happens with a zoom or telephone session?
I will send you the zoom link the day before our scheduled session, which you click on to join the meeting.
I will call you on the mobile number of your choice at the agreed time of our session.
Where do we meet for a Walk and Talk session?
We meet at the small local shop at the top of the estate where I live which is right next to an entrance to the woods.
Do you offer concessions?
Yes, I offer a concession to student counsellors or anybody on a low income for weekdays and evenings (but not applicable for Saturday mornings).
How do I make an appointment?
You can e mail me on laurprtsmth@gmail.com or call me on 07800 512918 and leave a voicemail message if I`m not available, I will get back to you within 12 hours, though it is normally less than this. Nobody else has access to my phone so you are assured of complete confidentiality regarding any message you leave for me.
Is it confidential?
Yes, I adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice and therefore confidentiality is paramount with each client, everything discussed remains just between us. There are exceptions to this which we would discuss on our first session.
